TEACHING
- As guest faculty, conducted a two-day hands-on workshop ("Writing
and Producing Online Journalism") for 15 master’s students
in the School of Journalism, University of British Columbia, Vancouver,
March 2003.
- As guest faculty, conducted a day-long hands-on workshop ("Writing
and Producing Online Media") for 25 master’s students in
the School of Journalism, University of British Columbia, Vancouver,
October 2001.
- As guest faculty, lectured and took part in "Writing Online News"
seminar (full week), at the Poynter Institute, St. Petersburg, Fla.,
November 2000.
- Accompanied 14 University of Florida journalism students to Sydney,
Australia, for a state-sponsored project (Florida World Pavilion) for
two weeks during the Olympic Games, September 2000. Served as supervisor
for students’ print and Web editorial work.
- Developed a three-week online seminar ("Internet Research Techniques")
for the American Press Institute as a consultant in 1998. Led the seminar
for two full sessions in 1998 and 1999. Students were newspaper professionals;
all teaching took place in a fully interactive, asynchronous, peer-to-peer
environment.
- As a volunteer, taught a three-month course in Web development for
interns in Byte Back, a Washington, D.C.-based program to provide computer-skills
training to low-income D.C. residents; developed course syllabus and
materials for course; March-June 1999.
- As a volunteer, developed and taught numerous five-week courses for
Byte Back (see previous item): "Introduction to Windows 95,"
"Intermediate Windows 95," "Introduction to Microsoft
Word 97," "Intermediate Microsoft Word 97," "Advanced
Microsoft Word 98"; August 1997-March 1999.
- As adjunct faculty, developed a full-semester course in magazine copy
editing for the Management Institute, New York University, in 1991;
taught same in spring and fall 1992. (The course
